Chicago – The Chicago Sky welcomed a new mascot to the team known as Skye the Lioness. After reviewing the Sky fan base’s feedback the organization ultimately opted to switch things up from Sky Guy to Skye the Lioness
“We couldn’t be more excited to introduce Skye the Lioness to Sky fans this season and deliver on passionate fan requests to create a mascot that fully represents the Chicago Sky,” Tania Haladner, Chicago Sky’s Chief Marketing Officer, said. “At a time of tremendous momentum in the WNBA, we know Skye will connect with fans and create new engagement opportunities throughout Skytown. We thank Tom, Randy, and Jeremy for their excellent design, build, and collaboration. We also appreciate Sky Guy for his years of service and his commitment to sharing his expertise with Skye.”
The lioness is known as a strong, dominant and fierce animal that walks with her shoulder and head high. Which reflects the Sky’s mantra of putting everything out on the court despite what team they are facing. Sky revealed that the lioness was selected for the embodiment of strength of feminine power, grace and courage for the team. As the Sky have constantly battled injuries and hard games.
Skye the Lioness was created by the impeccable designer Tomm Sapp of real characters, inc., who also designed many more mascots like Denver Nuggets’ Rocky. Skye’s costume was also made by Randy Carfango of Randy Carfango productions.
On Wednesday, August 28th The lioness is set to make her first debut against the Washington Mystics.
