LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Aces announced two roster moves Sunday, including waiving forward Emma Cannon and signing center Jessika Carter.
Cannon originally went undrafted in the 2011 WNBA Draft, leading her to take her talents overseas. While abroad, Cannon played with teams in five countries, including Osnabrucker SC and TSV Wasserburg in Germany, and Chevakata Vologda in Russia.
While playing in Russia, Cannon caught the eye of then-Phoenix Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello, who offered Cannon her first WNBA contract in 2017. In her first WNBA season, Cannon averaged 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 12.9 minutes per game with the Mercury.
In 2020 and 2021, Cannon spent time with the Aces, Connecticut Sun, and Indiana Fever on hardship contracts, appearing in all of the Aces’ postseason games in 2020.
Cannon has appeared in five games with the Aces this season, averaging 0.8 points, 0.4 rebounds, and 0.2 assists.
Jessika Carter, a center out of Mississippi State University, was drafted No. 23 overall by the New York Liberty in the 2024 WNBA Draft before being waived prior to the start of the season.
Carter appeared in two preseason games with the Liberty, playing 14 minutes and recording 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.
In five seasons at Mississippi State, Carter averaged 11.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. Carter’s 1,750 career points rank sixth in Mississippi State history, while her 1,120 rebounds and 238 blocks are second and third, respectively, in the program’s record books.
The two-time defending champion Aces are currently 6-6, already matching the number of losses they had in the entire 2023 season. The Aces are set to take on the Seattle Storm Wednesday, June 19, at 10 p.m. ET.
