While a lot of focus has been on Cailtin Clark and the scoring record this season one player who deserves her flowers is Syracuse guard Dyaisha Fair. Fair has been a bucket for the Orange all season, averaging 21.8 points per game and hitting 99 three-pointers this season, second only to Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, who has 143. This season, she also became the 16th woman in NCAA history to reach 3,000 points in January.
“When you tell somebody that you believe in them and you tell them that they’re enough, they will soar,” Legette-Jack said. “(Fair) is a living example of that.”
In the second half, she went off, scoring 17 of her 23 points when Syracuse needed her the most. Syracuse relied on Fair after they trailed 49-41 to Pittsburgh entering the fourth quarter. Fair answered by helping lead the comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 of her team’s 22 points. Syracuse outscored Pittsburgh 22-4 in the quarter, winning 63-53 on Fair’s senior night.
Fair is now only 92 points behind Jackie Stiles for fourth all-time in NCAA Division I career points with one game remaining in the regular season against NC State on Thursday, February 29th, at 7 p.m. eastern time.
