The July 2024 Women’s Hoops Network Player of the Month, in partnership with PICKUP by GameFlo is Las Vegas Aces star and WNBA veteran A’ja Wilson. This month, Wilson has had several impactful games, even breaking the record for most 25+ points and 10+ rebound games in a single season with 16 more games to play – she continues to dominate in the WNBA and for Team USA.
This month, Wilson averaged 27.8 points, 13.6 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 1.9 steals while shooting 54.4% from the field. Her strong performances led the Aces to a 6-2 month of July record, improving their overall record from 10-6 (.625) to 16-8 (.667).
In the Aces’ July 12 game against the Atlanta Dream, Wilson put up 33 points and 18 rebounds in 37 minutes for the 84-70 win. In the WNBA All-Star game against Team WNBA, Wilson put up an impressive 22 points and 6 rebounds despite Team USA’s loss.
Throughout the rest of the 2024-25 season, Wilson has averaged 27.2 points per game, 12.0 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 1.9 steals, leading the league in scoring, rebounding and blocks, while ranking 5th overall in steals.
The 2018 No. 1 overall pick has had an amazing season off the court as well, racking up three WNBA Player of the Week honors and three consecutive WNBA Player of the Month honors while continuing to dominate league MVP conversations.
In addition to these league accolades, Wilson cleaned up big at the ESPY Awards where she picked up two more honors after being named ‘Best WNBA Player’ and ‘Best Athlete in Women’s Sports’.
Though Wilson was unable to attend the event in person, she shared pre-taped remarks about the nominations she received.
“I just see it as I’m doing what I’m supposed to do,” Wilson said. “I’m doing what I’ve prepped myself, what I love to do. If this is historic, and the numbers say it, then great. But at the same time, this is something that I’m built to do. So it doesn’t come as any surprise, and it’s something that I’m not really hunting. I’m glad that it’s organically coming and my teammates are helping me do that.”
As the league heads into its Olympic break, Wilson will continue to showcase her talent to the world as she represents Team USA in this year’s Paris Olympics.
In Team USA’s exhibition match against Germany, Wilson led the team to victory as she put up 19 points and 14 rebounds in 25 minutes of play.
In France, Wilson and Team USA look to secure the United States’ eighth consecutive gold medal. Their first Olympic match will take place July 29 with tipoff beginning at 3 P.M. ET. The entirety of the Olympic Games will be available for viewing on NBC, USA Network and Peacock.
